About Lilja

LILJA Guesthouse is located in Hornafjordur, in the South East region of Iceland where Vatnajokull, Europe’s largest glacier, plays the major role in a spectacular scenery.

Lilja Guesthouse opened in April 2017. It offers 26 nice and cosy rooms divided into three categories and located in two separate buildings.

Lilja Guesthouse is very much a family affair, run by Ólafur Páll Vignisson and Þorbjörg Inga Þorsteinsdóttir. The owners are passionate about turning their visitors stay into great memories.

Lilja Guesthouse was a perfect stop for a night on the ring road in Iceland. The location was perfect—right across from a Glacier. The family running the Guesthouse was very friendly. The food at the restaurant was great. The rooms were small but well-appointed and comfortable. Would definitely recommend Lilja Guesthouse to anybody looking for a place to spend the night along the Ring Road in Southeast Iceland!

View matters!

This hotel is situated not far from a glacier and the view is beautiful! Our accommodations were clean and comfortable and the staff was friendly and the food was excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

Peaceful.

So peaceful, with a delightful breakfast spread of fresh local foods. The staff was so warm and helpful when needed, but did not impose either. They serve dinner also, local stew and other dishes.

What a place!

This was the best upcountry place we visited in Iceland. The view of the mountains from your room is absolutely stunning. Staff are all very friendly and the breakfast is good. Very good beds and showers.

Close to Glacier Lagoon and Höfn

Thought to myself, why drive out to the glacier from Reykjavik when we could stay close and not worry about waking up at 3 am? Lilja house was the answer! They offer free breakfast, fast wifi and cosy clean rooms with a view. I suggest driving to Höfn for dinner because why not?

Best place to see the aurora!

Best experience to see aurora!!! The hotel staff has been very helpful to my husband by getting me a surprise birthday cake.. it is indeed a very tasty cake. Best birthday gift to enjoy the cake at the hall while waiting for Aurora to appear!! Thank you so much!! Oh, not forgetting they serve very detail buffet breakfast too. I just love this place.

Outstanding guesthouse!

Lilja Guesthouse is an exceptional place to stay along the southern coast of Iceland. The owner is very nice and accommodating. The facilities are pristine, comfortable, and aesthetically pleasing. The showers are great, there is good free coffee in the lobby, and the included breakfast is hearty and good quality. The guesthouse is a 25-minute drive from the town of Hofn, which has great restaurants to choose from for the evening. We are very happy we chose to stay at Lilja Guesthouse.

Very nice hotel with friendly staff. We stayed in the new building which has very large and nice rooms. The beds were very comfortable. The breakfast was excellent. The hotel is located on road 1 and the access is easy.

Best hotel experience during our 9 days in Iceland.

Although it’s a “guesthouse” it’s a hotel room with a private bathroom. New about a year old, nice comfortable modern clean room. Coffee machine in the common sitting area – free use, great. Staff friendly & helpful. Situated on a farm with nice views of surrounding mountains. Lots of sheep and newborn. Enjoyed dinner. Good breakfast spread.
